They are somewhat round in shape, a bit oily, sweet and gooey on the inside. Kaimatis are one of the most enjoyed delicacies eaten by the Muslim community and part of the eastern side of the country. Talk about a delightful snack, that cannot miss on their table during Ramadhan.
Making “Kaimatis”
Prep time:- 5 -8 mins Chill time: 1 hr Cook time:- 35 mins Total time: 1 hr 43 mins
Yields = 20 pieces {approx}
*Main Ingredients*
-1 Cup of all purpose flour
-1/2 Cup of warm water
-6 Tablespoons of sugar
– 1 tsp of cinnamon
-1 tsp of vanilla essence
– 1 tsp of cardamom
-1/2 cup of low fat yogurt
-1 tsp of Baking powder
-Bowl or sufuria
Method
- Fold in all the dry ingredients into a sufuria, then pour in all the liquid ingredients and thoroughly mix the ingredients well until the batter becomes sticky.
- Cover the batter and store in the fridge for 1 hr to puff up.
FYI:
I decided I omitted the syrup part, but you could definitely make it. {Optional}.
3. Pre- heat enough oil into a pan or sufuria {for the deep frying}. Make sure its hot enough before adding in the dumplings.
4. Using either an ice-cream scoop or soup spoon, scoop the batter and gently pour in the batter to the hot oil and let it fry till golden brown. Avoid over crowding them in the oil, since the temperature would fall.
5. Have lots of serviettes to help the “Kaimatis” drain the excess oil}.
6. You can serve immediately, or you can totally add your toppings. I had “Nutella and chocolate syrup.
Final Outcome.
I believe its best enjoyed with coffee or hot milk.
